Oh no :( Do you think it was incubator troubles? So sorry :hugs
You may want to order some more keets to keep the little keet company. Ideal is shipping them now and has good prices on them.
I bet the eggs will be gorgeous :)
Do the lavender silkies usually hatch out with a bit of red coloring in their down? I'll have to post pictures of them, they are so cute. One hatched with a vaulted skull. I think I'll be keeping all of them, hoping for a good rooster to hen ratio. Might get...
@Metella is the expert but I don't think the one with feathered legs is an AB - they have clean legs I believe. But she'll be able to tell you :) Did you get any marans eggs from her? Those have feathered legs. Or maybe you got a cross that will be a nice olive egger.
That's too bad :( All my cemanis that didn't hatch were late quitters too, not sure what happened. One little silkie hatched with splayed leg but I have it all trussed up with vet wrap so hopefully that'll be fixed by tonight when I remove it.
Ducks are coming along! I put most of them under...
I didn't have a great hatch either - I think the heat fried them. I got four silkies out of six eggs, which is not bad, and three cemanis out of twelve eggs.
You got my eggs, so the solid black ones with black legs are probably AC crosses :) No breeding age NNs here though so that one isn't mine!
I have hatchlings too. Four silkies and two ACs so far. That might be all I get - I think a lot of the others were late quitters for some reason.
Then he's probably a drake. She had sexed her ducklings at hatch by beak sexing and wanted to get rid of some extra boys, I believe. Beak sexing is only about 70 to 90 percent accurate though. You can tell for sure when his quack comes in - low and raspy, a drake. Loud and sounds like an actual...
From what I've read at four to five weeks you can tell them apart because males will get in wing feathers that are the color of burnt sienna and females will not. Also there's a way to tell by the barring. That's for IBs though, not sure about other varieties. Take this with a grain of salt...
Thanks! I'm hoping my two will turn out to be either two hens or a pair - really don't want two noisy boys and no girls, lol. They're India Blue so hopefully I'll know in four weeks :)
That is really funny, you named your bunny the same thing I did mine! I think mine has grown.
How are everyone's eggs doing? I'll be candling mine again tomorrow night.
Upon candling one of mine either wasn't fertile or didn't like the long drive home so it didn't start but the other five are doing great :)
Excellent news! Let me know what colors hatch, I'll be very curious.
Well so far I've hatched mostly lavender, what appears to possibly be brown, and a pearl, so any of those are possible :) Have you candled them yet? This is what mine looked like on day 6:
@Chicken girl 15 be prepared for surprises when your keets hatch. Mine just did and instead of all pearl so far I have one lavender, one pearl, and two unknown colors. Dad must be split to something and not just pearl.
Mine sleep on the roost in the chicken coop, but they do like to get up high. Here's a picture of three of mine in a tree:
I'm sure if I had different height levels on the roosts in my coop they'd be on the highest one.
One of my neighbors did something they shouldn't have been doing a few...
