So I want to update y'all on our new girl. We're calling her Lucy, as in Lucky Lucy. She started laying the first week of November after only being here for about week. Her eggs are a chocolate brown, and seem to be getting progressively darker. My wife seems to think Lucy is a French Black Tail...
Thank you Clucked Up! I assure you that it's us who feel blessed to have her. As for the flock, she's being accepted as much as to be expected for a stranger. Our flock were raised from one day old chicks we got from Cackle. We do have two roosters, but they seem to almost protect her, at least...
Yes, I believe she did. We just stopped in at a neighbors house to ask if they had lost a chicken, but they don't have chickens. As healthy as she seems, it makes sense she was cared for. I'm interested to see if she sleeps on the top perch again with the big girls tonight.
Thanks for the pics. Yeah, she's younger than our girls so we're just guessing her age. I'm watching for eggs on the ground, since she wouldn't know where the nests are yet. I hope she'll learn from the older girls. I will say that she has a much longer beak than our cinnamon queens and golden...
I know just from the fact that she's healthily plump and clear eyed that someone loved her. If we found her owners we'd give her back. But I don't think that will happen. And after all the spoiling I'm doing to her, she might not want to go back.:)
I know. So, some of our girls are chasing her around, but they don't hurt her. She's getting all the good treats too so I hope she feels accepted. But the fact that she slept on the top perch last night cuddled up to the girls makes me happy. We'll keep them all in the runs for a few days and...
We had cleaned the egg we found, and cooked it this morning. The shell was very thin, and the yoke wasn't as dark yellow as our girls eggs. We'll keep an eye out for non nest laid eggs.
I know, and I'm sure she's being missed. She's been loved and taken care of for sure. We think she may be laying already because we found an egg in the sandbox below the perches that looks different from our ladies eggs.
She obviously has been taken care of, and it's sad she's not at her home. We don't know anyone around us that have birds, but would return her to her owners if we could find them. For now, she's getting love and attention (and treats) like our flock. The fact that she slept on the top perch with...
She's pretty close to pictures we see of the New Hampshires with their black tail feathers surrounded by the cinnamon feathers. Her color is a deep cinnamon/brown, darker than most of the pics we've seen of the New Hampshires, but looks like the pictures of production reds. She sure will be a...
We've been blessed with this new arrival. Cinnamon/brown with black tail feathers. We hope it's a female. She arrived two nights ago, and stayed out in the bushes every night. But every morning she'd show up. She has been taken care of quite well, and she has clear eyes. Got her to go into the...
