An update on my Rainbows... I've lost all but the smallest (12lbs?) hen to heat stroke. She quit laying about a month ago when it got over 90 degrees, is now about 8 months old and I am not sure when she will start up again. Hopefully when it cools off?
The cochins and EE's are doing fine...

It depends on your flock, my DR's are middle of the road.
In my mixed flock (LF Cochins/EE's) they are bullies mostly because of size/weight. In a flock of RIR's or something more pushy they would probably be super sweet birds.
While I like the egg laying abilities of these guys they do not appear to handle heat well. They are looking more distressed than my cochins ever did and it only got up to 91 for a few days. During that time their egg whites were like water, so probably not the best breed for the deep south...
Thank you all!
I was hoping the white barred one was a roo. He has a nicer build/shape to him, the speckled one I will list on CL for sale. It is gumbo season here so he will probably make someone a nice big pot.
What do you guys think, is this whitish one a rooster? I'm pretty sure the other brown speckled one is, but even the hennish looking ones have these longish tail feathers. Thanks!
8 weeks old, isa brown on the left Dixie rainbow (hen?) on the right.
She is average sized for the group of rainbows, I have a couple whitish ones that are quite a bit larger than she is and have a hard time walking.
I can't tell the difference between the Dixie Rainbows and the Isa Browns at a week old, but out of 27 from Hoover hatchery 23 are still alive and very active.
They are all growing like weeds and quite inquisitive. I figured if they had chicks available now it meant these guys were good for...
