Personally I see more bobbles, just after laying them down, and right before they start hatching. The couple days in between are usually very still.
Chirping can usually be heard after they pip the membrane, either internally, or externally... once they are breathing air.
I only hatched...
:fl good luck!
(and it's not unusual to see little bobbles when you first lay them down, as they are already starting to move into position)
Enjoy the show!! :)
I think you will just have to experiment as they grow. But I do remember them being very "adventurous", very quickly! Lol
Maybe someone else will chime in with better ideas than me. :D
I hope you will post some pics when they hatch.
Oh, I thought the screen covered the whole thing. My fault. You definitely want the whole thing covered. I made a frame from some scrap pieces of wood and stapled welded wire to it. It's got enough weight alone. Could you do something like that?
The wood probably won't be necessary since the screen covers it all, and it may actually make it too warm. I'd try without it first. But definitely keep the screen. Quail can start to fly within just a few days! Hopped over my 14" brooder at about 6 days old. :D
It should! Just make sure they have room to get away from the light if it gets too warm. If they stay directly under it, it may not be warm enough. Observe and let them tell you.
