I successfully taped a call duck egg that was a little further along than yours, probably a week or so before hatch. I used paper/medical tape. Depending on where the crack is located, you might have to peel some of the band-aid off in order for it to hatch, so keep an eye on it.
I set 7 d’Uccle eggs in my Brinsea Mini. On day 4, I was reaching for something on the shelf above the incubator, and dropped it. Clutz!
It jostled the eggs inside, and cracked a few. I used 3M micropore paper-like medical tape and 2 hatched today. I think a couple quit early on, and one was...
under a hen? I think I'd remove it, if it's not too important (like an expensive shipped egg or something). Hens can be rough with their eggs. I'd be afraid it would break all over the other eggs.
Chicken? Just keep an eye on that membrane that it doesn't dry out too much. You can use a dab of vaseline or coconut oil to moisten it, if necessary. Good luck!
congrats on it getting this far!
kinda depends on where it is, how much wax, and how thick/solid it is. But most likely, I'd just leave it. can you post a pic?
I would definitely be interested to see it this works. Good luck to you!
By the way, I date and draw my air cells with sharpie marker, which seems strong too, but they are fine with it, so I hope this works for you!
Awww, I'm sorry for your loss. That's the biggest risk with setting a small number. I've heard that mirrors help. Maybe you can get another at TSC or somewhere. Craigslist? Are you planning to hatch any more? My ducks are a couple months old now, and I just hatched 10 lavender orpingtons...
Not stupid at all! Actually I think it is very smart. What happened to the other 2? (sorry, I haven't read this entire thread) I do hope you got at least one more... duckies like having buddies. I hatched 4 black Swedish a couple of months ago. Your baby sure has a beautiful chocolate color.
