Thanks! It was so warm that we got the ducks' wading pool out and enjoyed the hilarity. Here's two female Welshies buzzing a Swedish!

I love how our WH drake Major always keeps a close eye on his gals.

Our young Harlequins have really impressed us during this crazy cold spell. Here the temperature was -15, and they were choosing to play in a pail of water rather than stay snug in their shed. Our Swedish wouldn't even come outside, and we thought they'd be the most cold hardy. We plan to get...

Umm...Theodore and Louise?? Must admit I'm officially Louise, not Weezy, but Louise sounds like someone's old Auntie! Your ducks are just beautiful, no matter the gender. We had to lock ours up a bit early tonight (big storm coming) and they definitely gave us a piece of their minds! Our WH...

Have to agree with you Nebraskagirl - that's a little boy voice if I've ever heard one! And he looks larger than his gal friend too. Fun to see a video - they make a cute couple!! I've read that beak color sexing has a 90% accuracy rate with WHs - guess you've got the one-in-ten.

Lol - we had that happen with our last batch of Swedish. We were sure one beautiful black duckling was a drake so we named him Rex (the kids said he had T-Rex feet). But when Rex started quacking, "he" became Rexy! They named our WH drake Harley and the ducks Hedwig, Henrietta and Herdis

That's a terrific site - thanks! I agree with you - ours look like silver phase. Interesting that it says the females often don't get their true coloration until they're two years old. It's going to be fun to watch them grow up!

Thanks! They really are a pretty breed. I'm still trying to get the phases straight... All of our females are getting blue wing patches and the drake is getting a blue-green one. Does that make them all silver phase??

    Welsh Harlequin

Thank you all so much for your thoughts!! We're really newbies with this breed - didn't even know about the silver and golden variations. Maybe I should have waited a few more weeks to post photos because they're really changing every day. They'll be eight weeks old on June 11. They still have...

Yikes, really? The man we bought them from said he ordered Welsh Harlequin ducklings from Cackle Hatchery, but I admit I haven't always heard the best things about them. Last year we sold some pullets to a family after all the chicks they ordered from Cackle got sick and died. What do you...

    Welsh Harlequin

So happy to find the Welsh Harlequin page! We got our first WHs last weekend and think they're so pretty and fun to watch. They're very frightened, though, at age eight weeks. The breeder we got them from said he hadn't handled them at all, so I guess we can't expect them to be as calm as our...
