The Cornish Cross: “What is wrong with this picture?!” There is so much to think about in this arti

You do not see people downing those battery hens.. They can't walk when they get out of cages.. so it must be their fault right? Well CX can't walk because they are offered unending feed that they just can not say no to... Thank you for raising your birds right and sharing your experience...

The Cornish Cross: “What is wrong with this picture?!” There is so much to think about in this arti

I decided to take a poll on my facebook farmpage asking people if they believe the Cornish X are gentically modified. Over half of the answers stated yes.. I stopped counting after 40 saying yes. I thought I would share my response. For those of you who answered my earlier question about the...

The Cornish Cross: “What is wrong with this picture?!” There is so much to think about in this arti

Ask questions. Ask to see pictures. Ask how they are fed. If they say pasture raised, ask if they are in tractors. Because this: and THIS: is SO not the same. Edited by staff

The Cornish Cross: “What is wrong with this picture?!” There is so much to think about in this arti

Yes.. I just can't eat a DP bird cooked any other way than slowly. My chickens have been given at least a few chickens while we tried different methods in cooking DP birds. Can't do it on the BBQ, Rotisserie, fried, or baked.. Brining does not help you gain the ability to cook it any of those...

Yeah not a whole lot of fat until they reach that 12+ week mark. I definitely notice a difference between the CX I raised in the summer VS the fall. I will only do it in the spring/summer again.. So much more forage.

The Cornish Cross: “What is wrong with this picture?!” There is so much to think about in this arti

Yes but are the pastured CX running around? That is the difference. If they are not freely fed, they are running to find feed. They are not bland, they are not pale.. They are coloured the same as any Plymouth Rock I have butchered. Nice dark meat on the legs and thighs. Not stringy though, and...

The Cornish Cross: “What is wrong with this picture?!” There is so much to think about in this arti

They were raised with them since chicks. I have a ladder roost with very deep bedding, so they have soft landings. I did run over one CX with a dolly full of feed and broke her foot, and jammed one in a door by accident, but those are the only two issues I had with legs. I feed all of my...

Actually WalkingOnSunshine, they can go broody :) Delisha on here has many broody CX. She did mention they are more apt to break eggs because of their size, and clumsiness, but they can be wonderful and dedicated mothers.

I guess I'm done trying to prove to you that this article is experience and not fact. All the pictures posted.. all the videos, and experience in raising them a totally different way than the author of the article. You are not looking past your opinion. I was in your place not too long ago...

The Cornish Cross: “What is wrong with this picture?!” There is so much to think about in this arti

I also prefer the flavour of pastured birds. I pasture raise my CX, did you not see me mention that? All those white chickens are CX CX NO antibioitcs AT ALL. No medication in the feed for cocci. No vaccinations. Please choose to educate yourself before sharing...

The Cornish Cross: “What is wrong with this picture?!” There is so much to think about in this arti

So, why can't you free range your broilers? I do both DP and CX for meat. When free ranged, the flavour of the CX is identical to a DP the same age, but the texture and quantity of meat is better. I do DP because I have extra males. What can I do with them other than eat them or breed...

The Cornish Cross: “What is wrong with this picture?!” There is so much to think about in this arti

I start out with feed being available with the sunlight. Once the sun sets, the feed gets taken away (I use EcoGlows to brood them). So depending on the time of year, it can be 12 hours on 12 hours off or 14-15 hours on, 9-10 hours off. At two weeks they are cut down to 3 feedings. One in the...

The Cornish Cross: “What is wrong with this picture?!” There is so much to think about in this arti

Hold back one of your smaller ones :) Big Bertha was very food submissive, which says a lot for the CX. She doesn't fight the others for feed. She is polite, which made her one of my smaller girls at first butcher round. After they were out of the way, she started packing on the weight. Not...

My Cornish X Are the opposite of everything I heard in this article. I agree it is in your management... If they have those issues it is because of poor husbandry, not the birds themselves. They like to eat. if they have a buffet in front of them 24/7 they are going to become overweight and...
