Adorable! Guess I better get building a bigger brooder for my week and a half week olds! That's a nice set up! Wonder if I can modify it for my living room.... sure I can!
Disclaimer: I've done a whole 2 hatches ever, both in the last couple weeks.
I will admit to opening the bator to tweak humidity, even in my Minis, because when I filled both wells the humidity shot up to 80+% and I panicked. It probably depends on your bator too, how fast it gets back up to...
Good luck and Congrats to all the hatching going on today!!!
My next batch locks down on Sun so isn't a Feb HAL group. The base-jumping seven from Feb are playing some sort of weird kick-boxing/rugby game with a piece of parsley. Well 6 of them are, the other one seems to be cheerleading...
Glad they're doing well!! Been wondering. Crash aside I liked how you had your incubator/brooder cage set up. Might have to do that for the newbies. And definitely should be putting their food in a box lid like that!!! Tho' I think my little guys are just naturally messy. : )
Noooo, just let your mind focus on work and the day will fly by! Then you get home to chicks! And hopefully a hatcher to watch. Good luck! Hope all goes well!!!!
So far so good. They're exactly 7 days older than she is. It helps that she's full of attitude and has the biggest voice of the whole group to complain and tattle with! It was an overly enthusiastic newbie mistake to replace a clear egg at day 7 with her egg. Um, different hatch dates, only...
Oh great! I put the solo chick who hatched today into the brooder to see if she'd be okay while I was here to monitor (day off). One NJ male came up to peck her, she gave it right back in spades! She's mastered the hot plate, one of the waterers, and the homemade stick-your-head-in-the-hole...
Yep! Not sure what I was thinking, all my adults have square perches. Think I saw a cool tote-brooder with built in round perches and it stuck in my head. Just wedged a 1" flyball slat (dog sport) into some notches in the tote - instant perch! Tho' they're still pretty keen on the whole base...
Awww, too cute. What are you using for a roost? Can't quite make it out. I had plans for a fancy dowel set up but have only gotten as far as getting some 4' dowel rods... I've got plenty of lumber parts in the barn tho', wondering if there are square edges on what you've got there.
