    Chicken mating thread !!!

An easier approach is to simply spend about 15 to 20 minutes with the birds to observe. Rooster will likely cover a hen during that interval. We should spend some time checking on them anyway as verifying how they are doing with respect to health and the condition of their containment.

    Chicken mating thread !!!

If roosters of different breeds are exhibiting the behavior, are they implying the condition is somehow vectored/ promoted by a pathogen? I question outright the assertion about the three roosters taking on a predator and think it is false. If balance of information is of similar quality and...

    Chicken mating thread !!!

In some settings where only single male is though to be garnering all the matings, there can be a satellite that gets some, usually a minority. The satellite male in chickens could be thus a paid backup in case the harem master is lost ensuring the original harem master's offspring get...

    Chicken mating thread !!!

Hens usually solicit male only while in lay or about to start. They will still raise their tail if covered by an aggressive rooster. Mating is not required to stimulate egg production.

    Chicken mating thread !!!

Look at video linked above. That is about proper duration. Duration is usually more a function of hen getting ready which is a function of whether she is willing or not. With willing hens the process is more rapid. The head stepping part seems to be associated with individuals that...

    Chicken mating thread !!!

See link: Sperm transfer through cloacal kiss. Colloquial terms us to describe include the following: tread, mate, and cover. Eggs fertilized by a given cloacal kiss start no later than three days after event. One event may be enough to fertilize an entire clutch but multiples are...
