    first time incubating

I've come to the conclusion that ducky lucky was not as healthy as I thought he was. These2 new babies are only 2 days old and they ate more in 1 night then ducky lucky ate in 5 days!. They're also very active and so hard to hold onto, they are jumping off the sofa and everything when I take...

I'll post pics tonight for sure. Those were the smallest ones I could find online close to us. Will the adult call ducks be able to live together with the other ducks and chickens? From what I read online they don't grow very big.

I'm just so heart broken. I was getting quite attached to that adorable little squawker. My boyfriend is going to buy us a couple of 2 day old call ducklings on his way home from work tonight. Hoping that will cheer us up but I know its not gonna be the same.

    first time incubating

He really was a fighter and seemed so strong and healthy after a couple days. I think he might have broken his neck trying to get out of his cage. Yesterday I found him under the brooder on the floor, about a 2-3ft drop. He was fine afterwards , but I couldn't figure out how he'd gotten out...

Haha just found poop on my coffee table 2feet away from the duck cage. They must be flinging it around. Ewwwww time for the big birds to go outside! Ducky lucky will stay inside and be spoiled for a bit longer, maybe forever if I let my son have his way. He says he wants me to make diapers for...

He's really perking up. Waddling all around his brooder cage and biting at me when I put my hand in. Such a little cutie, I just love him. My son held him for a minute this morning. And he spent a bit of time cuddled up sleeping on my chest....until he pooped! Aaahhh didn't think such a little...

Muscovy ducks are actually the quietest of ducks I've heard. And the only ducks not related to mallards. I'll post more pics soon!

Ducky lucky is doing great today! He's up walking all around, flapping and quacking. His legs are still a little wobbly but much better then yesterday!

    first time incubating

I just took him out to examine his belly button area and I noticed that his bum feathers were really stuck together. I just gave him a very careful bath. Took several soakings and lots of gentle picking at it to clean him up but I finally managed to get most of it off and expose his vent. He...

    first time incubating

When should I move the newborn duckling into his brooder? Its been 24 hours but he's still not able to walk around. He's just flipping and flopping in circles in the incubator. Does he need food and water at this point?

Once you've incubated for 7 days you should be able to clearly see the embryo and blood vessels as well as movement in the egg. I never really tried to figure it out before that.

    first time incubating

He was so excited when he got home from school and I told him someone was waiting to meet him. He screamed " my ducky"and took off running. He keeps asking when he can hold and pet him.

    first time incubating

I managed to use tweezers this morning and pinched off the umbilical cord closer to the egg. It was pretty dried up so no bleeding but he's still got about a centimeter of dried umbilical cord on his belly. I also helped him get a drink from a bottle cap and he really; went at. He still can't...
