Yes this is their first winter laying. They were hatched November 2019 and started laying in April at 5 months old. They each lay 6 eggs a week and the blue hens egg is an extra large egg sometimes a jumbo and the splash hen lays a medium egg lol. They are both looking not their best right now...

She is a beautiful hen!, and such a pretty egg:love My two silverudd sisters, Isla & Isolde are my best layers- they have not stopped laying even when my 20 other hens of different breeds all stopped! I really love this breed.

Those are my favorite!! My splash hen lays a dark olive like egg with those big purple speckles and my blue hen lays lays a lighter green with an overlay of tiny purple speckles:love

She’s very pretty! But I’m in MI, so sadly that won’t work :D My first Silverudds were from eggs I hatched from FL though- and I love my hens, I just can’t seem to get good roosters:idunno

Thank you for sharing and clearing up the whole sprig vs spur for me, I was pretty sure it was hereditary so that’s why I haven’t tried breeding them yet. Sadly it means I don’t have anything to work with:barnieI guess I’ve got to find more eggs to hatch or chicks to buy.... any suggestions??:)

They are very sweet! I’d say you have a pullet, based on comb size and color and I don’t see wattles yet. :)

My splash is looking very much like a roo:hmm and it’s eyes have lightened up on top of it, so I ended up with 2 more roosters that I don’t really want to use in breeding:rolleyes:

Such sweet pictures! My blue rooster(Tristan) is the lowest rooster of 4 but he does fine by staying out of the other Roos way and keeps a small group of girls with him while free ranging and he seems happy with that. So far he is completely free of any aggressive traits(but he’s only 8 months)...

I have Marans too, so I get what you mean. I just love having them all look different lol I think my little SB hens with their black eyes look like stuffed toys with dark button eyes or something :confused::lol:

Thanks for all the pictures! These 2 chicks are from Windy Whiskers in Texas. They were beautiful eggs and packaged wonderfully but I had a horrible hatch with them. I had 6 chicks hatch from eggs from Florida last November and I kept the trio of that blue rooster and a blue and splash hens...
