I don't know if I said this before, but Permethrin is supposed to help. I don't like using it because it's a powerful pesticide, but in severe cases I would probably do one dip just to save the bird some suffering. Or, in birds with feather feet, it is probably less messy.

Castor oil works well. It's got properties in it that help. It's cheap too.

DE is Diatomaceous Earth (food grade) and a lot of people like it because it's believed to control parasites. Some say it does not. It's nice to use in the dust bath ,regardless, though. I have never cleaned the living quarters entirely because one bird had scaly leg mites. IMO it seems that...

Every case is different. I've never seen a case clear up JUST using Ivermectin. We have a hen now we've been treating for several weeks. Her Scales have fallen off.....finallly..but she's still limping. It took a long time for the scales to fall off, and we used Ivermectin, but, obviously...

I'm going to get some today. I hate the smell of that stuff, but we used it before on one of our other birds, in combo with Castor oil, and Epsom salts soaks, and he did clear up faster than our hen is. fyi, Camphophenique is great for removing imbedded ticks on animals...

Well, it's a treatment for all parasites, so you have to watch it too, if you've recently dewormed your birds with something else. Someone told me there's Ivermectin gel...seems like that would work well, but I can't find it locally.

I can't find where I mentioned this before in this thread, so I will mention again that someone on another thread took their roo to the vet and he gave the bird a shot of Ivermectin that supposedly cleared it right up. I can't imagine that it would be that easy....? I've also heard that garlic...

In a bad case, using your method, how long do you think it takes before the condition goes away entirely? I make sure the brush goes under, between, and through the bad scales. His feet and legs are nice and soft so I'm sure the oil is being absorbed pretty well.

I got a soft basting brush and I use that. It gets the oil where it needs to be, and he seems to enjoy the feel of the brush on his feet. And I warm the oil by floating the bottle in some hot water for a few minutes. Four weeks and he just has a small spot left on the toes of his right foot...
