duck egg turning blue. . . .under broody duck

I am not sure what it was. The blue eggs were greenish liquid and the normal eggs were yellow liquid. Once the liquid came out I didn't look much further---fear that may bag would give out made me end the search quickly. I was just happy that there wasn't a formed duckling in the eggs. I...

duck egg turning blue. . . .under broody duck

This story started with a very sad and lonely duck (her sister was killed) and now I can end it with a very happy Mommy duck. We only hatched one duckling (out of 5 eggs) but it only took one to make her a very happy duck. Many thanks to everyone who listened, advised, and cared to help me.

duck egg turning blue. . . .under broody duck

Yesterday she stopped sitting on the eggs. I pulled them and later broke them (inside a heavy duty zip lock bag) and they were all duds. All four other eggs were kinda liquid Good luck on your hatch.

I thought about that---you would think something instinctive would let her know it's time to give up????

duck egg turning blue. . . .under broody duck

I went to take it out because all the information I received lead me to believe it is a dead egg. I didn't get it because she got so upset I thought she was gonna step on the baby. I decided to wait and not get her upset or at least wait until the baby is safely away from the nest. I am just...

duck egg turning blue. . . .under broody duck

I am having a patience issue too. I keep going to the coop & puttering around just to peak at the baby & eggs. She is sitting her eggs & taking care of the baby so I think all is well. I will let this go for awhile since these are mutt ducks. The father was a pekin & mothers could be...

duck egg turning blue. . . .under broody duck

I do have a smaller bowl in the cage with them next to the food. I don't think she can clear her nostrils but someone has been messing it up. I assume she is teaching the chick to eat. I've not seen it yet. This waiting on these eggs is killing me. Each morning I hope to see a sign but...

I only had female Pekins---Is the pink bill anything to do with it being male? Oh I do hope he's a she.

duck egg turning blue. . . .under broody duck

Thanks for the advice. I am very torn on what to do about mommy ducks water. She doesn't want to come out of her space and leave her baby. I put a large bowl (the one she has been using since she started with eggs) right outside her door. I even go as far away as I can and still keep an...

That is interesting about the bill. Funny about the name. I am just so happy to have a duckling. She still has two eggs but each day goes by I am getting less hopeful.

I am thinking she is all Pekin (the only thing is that her mother, if I remember correctly, had brighter yellow bill & legs.) so far no signs of any pips or zips

duck egg turning blue. . . .under broody duck

She seems to be doing well with her new little one. Tomorrow will be a challenge with the extreme heat. The baby sits beside her as it's too hot. The coop was 94 with fans blowing. I'm ready to move them in the house! She doesn't do change well and I just moved her today. Not sure what...

duck egg turning blue. . . .under broody duck

I think the more I read, and the more BYC members that reply, I am sure blue egg = dead duckling. I don't understand what exactly has happened to the shell. Since I am new to ducks I am just learning everything as I go along. I read a lot before I started with ducks but living with them...

duck egg turning blue. . . .under broody duck

Okay, the duck stood up in her nest and I can see a 2nd egg turning blue. I guess that means we lost two. I can't take them out without upsetting her since she has a duckling. I will try tonight. I hope I don't scare her. I sure wish I knew what I was doing. . . . .

duck egg turning blue. . . .under broody duck

Well, I successfully moved her into a large dog kennel (nesting box, eggs, chick & mom). I took down part of the wire that separates the chicken coop from my feed area. So with this kennel if needed I can access from the feed side or open the door into the chicken coop. She can still see...

GREAT NEWS!!!! no pip, no zip, no movement BUT I woke up today and saw a tiny ball of yellow in the nest! not the best picture but I didn't want to move her into the light I gave our Ducky one egg a day earlier than the rest in case I was wrong about her being broodie...

duck egg turning blue. . . .under broody duck

Thanks, Mike. I guess I just don't want to believe it. I will try and get a better look tomorrow. If no ducklings hatch I'm gonna have one sad duck on my hands. I better get it out before it ruins the other eggs. I have heard of eggs breaking in the nest and it doesn't sound very good...

I am trying so hard to be patient. It is driving me nuts. I feel really foolish thinking about a duck so much. Maybe I need a life?
