Human anti-viral meds for Mareks -- has anyone else tried this?

Well, it's of course only a small sample, but it does sound significant that symptoms were arrested and didn't progress, I do agree. Some of the symptoms anyway, since they still died. Still, progress is progress! As more people try, hopefully we'll learn more about it. Best wishes.

Sort of related, perhaps... Just some interesting information that might be worth checking out. Not sure what use it is but sharing just in case it's useful to someone, sooner or later. Quote:

Quitting animals altogether is the only way you will escape the threat of having permanent carrier status of serious diseases. Among animals, anyway, but there's also that risk with humans too of course. And plants. And everything else biological you might want to get into, lol... Every species...

Don't have much info of any use to add so I will just watch and learn what I can. Good luck to everyone. I've been doing some research on plants that are anti-cancer, but won't hijack the thread. Good on you for getting a necropsy and testing done, @alibabba , at least now you know for sure...

Where there is life, there is hope. Your post made me laugh, the way you described some things, your writing style is very comedic. :) But a tragic situation for sure. I hope you find success, if you test this antiviral medication please let us know how it goes. Hope you have a vet as cool...

Good to hear! Hope things continue to improve. I really do agree that the sunshine does them so much good, that's always been my experience with animals in rehabilitation. The sunlight is a bit of a booster for them. I'm learning about vitamin D in the body (natural not synthetic since they...

About the composting deep litter, I know there's lots of differing opinions on what that is and how one sets it up, but I just tweak it to suit my conditions, not follow some rulebook or any strict guidelines. I use the term 'composting' now to differentiate it from the 'deep litter' method...

True, it's a pretty murky issue in terms of education on it, it's generally presented as being factoids on the past rather than current issues. Sounds quite brutal and it is, really, but it's also extremely unvarnished logic. Adults need to eat before children because without them there are no...

I agree with Sonya9, it's certainly not a new thing at all. These days cull-and-replace is far more popular than it ever was; back then, it was a staggering loss of a precious resource which could not easily be replaced. In many ways the 'primitive' or early farmer went to greater lengths than...

If she's a quality leghorn you should get eggs for longer. Isabrowns are the worst I've ever seen for quitting at two or under years of age, the leghorns I've had were still laying two-a-day at 2 years old and stepped down to one a day for the next two years (and then I sold them on, still...

Oh ok, makes sense now. Sorry, just been talking to people that don't realize that if something works, it can fail to work, kind of basic biology really. ;) Best wishes.
