That's our plan to, to raise for meat and eggs. Right now we only have two that are laying, but plan on keeping some for laying from this hatch. One of my duck seem to be unable to lay so she might be first one we slaughter.
Yes that how my mama duck is very protective of her nest. I just put long sleeves and gloves on and go for it ! She hisses and bites but what else can I do I think she has eggs under her that are at different stages of development, so the ducklings may be running around with out her too.
So l took your advice miss Lyndia and pull some eggs out of the nest to keep it at 8. The problem that I'm having is my other girls are laying in the same nest. I candled some to say and discover some are being to developers while other are fresh. And suggestions ?
Yes she comes out for awhile in the after noon. And yes there are feather lining the nest. Every day she lays another egg. She's about 2 years. Im not sure if she was allowed to sit last year.
So my ducks finally started laying. At least one of them any way. It's been about 2 weeks. At first I was gathering the eggs but then she started staying in the nest. There's another 6 eggs now. Is she sitting on the nest or just protecting it?
Well my ducks finally began to lay, one of them has any way, for about two weeks. I gathered the first week but the second week she started staying on the nest and only comes out for a while through out the day. So l haven't gathered for about 5 days and she has 5 eggs now. She is about 2 years...
No not really she won't let me get to close. But she seems to be preening and drinking she's just not interested in the grains that I toss to out. Every one else gathers around
Thank you very helpful. They seem to be more comfortable. They know that I'm the one who brings the treats! I'm going to adjust the nesting area for more privacy like you suggested. Do you think that there should be a separate best per hen?
