I've still got the serama mix cockerels in the freezer. Gave one to a family member (can't remember how they cooked it), said it was delicious. I usually raise them up, and give them to an acquaintance who butchers them for me. Some days later, I pick them up. I've yet to be asked for one of my...
Yup. Not complaining about it, this year I won't have any teeny teeny chicks to care for and worry about during the summer, I'll just get to enjoy the good parts of juveniles getting introduced to proper chicken life
I've never had birds crow this early! Lady Gaga was the earliest crower I've had, crowing at 3 months or so. His mix breed sons were probably around the same age when they started, but I didn't pay too much attention to their timeline. 6, 7 and 8 months for a first crow is normal around these parts
They are doing very very good! They've started flying all over the place, so it's definitely time to add small branches in the brooder for them to climb, roost, and learn to balance on
Hatching eggs from your flock is awesome, but hatching eggs from birds you bred is so cool! I feel like it's been such an eye opener to what we need to work on conformationaly!
Hopefully you'll get to experience it soon!
I love them all, but I'm biased. The LFs are special to me, because these are the first chicks of birds I bred myself, and I'm so glad to be seeing improvements when it comes to their crest. Now we need to perfect the crest, and work on removing unwanted colours
Time for the serama! Number three. Here, you can't see its tiny black marking on the head, but I promise it's not Haris. Remember when I told you all that the serama don't enjoy taking photos? Well this bugger when screaming it's lungs out
