We don't use a trellis, but my grandpa uses cattle panels. They are about $20 and are 16 feet long. You can stake them up with T-posts and let anything that climbs grow up the panel. When the plants are spent, you can leave the panels up or take them down.
It's pretty dry here in NC, also. We got a SPRINKLE of rain Friday, but it just was enough to wet the grass and spot up the Jeep.
I've been having to water everything twice a day to keep it looking decent. A giant, commercial quality hose pipe is the trick.
