The bottom one had three junglefowl chicks in its guts. The others were probably there for mating purposes. It sure would have been nice if they hadn't driven off the pheasant hen. I lost a whole pile of chicks before I figured out the culprits.
Needless to say my pheasant abandoned her nest. There are three snakes in this picture. The war is raging. Got another one last night in a pen. I was giving a tour of a bucnh of 10 year old girls and caught one by the tail and broke his head over the shelter in the pen. Some were aghast...
I was trying to get a picture of him striking, but my reflexes were just too good. I couldn't hold still no matter what. He hit the lens about 5 times. I never did get the shot. LOL
Its a gopher snake, or Bull snake. It was actually a pretty good sized one. Its a balance. We have pheasants and mice are a nuisance with all the feed. The bull snakes get the mice and gophers, and they also keep the rattlesnakes at bay. HOWEVER, they are really hard on eggs and baby...
I went out to take some pictures of my new chicks and what did I see.....
Sorry for the poor quality photo, I snapped and ran at the same time. I nailed him by his tail before any damage was done.
