I have covered the runs in plastic all sides, top to bottom,we just expanded the run and will be making a larger coop,i just have 6 chickens outside right now 3 BO roosters and 3 RSL hens,I just bought 15 BO females,because 3 rooster is way to many for just 3 hens I had not planed on putting...

I made my 1st run out of chain link dog fence panels, put rafters on it and roofed it,the coop in totally inside the run,they only sleep and lay eggs in there,they are free to roam the run when they wake up until they go to bed,i do free range on my off days all day long and on the days I work...

really like your idea,i was wondering the same thing on how to keep it from snagging,this is our 1st winter with chickens and I believe this will work,we do not normally have piles of snow mainly rain that will freeze and cold air,i think I may invest in some plastic lattice,also in the summer...

about heating your water,i read, and am going to try this,a lady took a tin like you get cookies in snipped a hole in it bought the wiring set up for a lamp clipped that to the tin and used a 40 watt bulb,put the lid back on the tin and set the waterer on top and turned it off during the day...
