Ok so the healthy chick decided to splay on me. Right leg only. Not sure why as I have paper towels down and that seems to be good for traction. Anyway. I tried the rubber band method per an old post on here. And within not even 5 minutes this chick had it off. I did it again tighter and closer...
I haven't made a splint for it. It appears a little stronger. Trying electrolytes tonight. When I put it by the water it drank heartily on its own. I'm confused on how to make a splint. I'll post some pics.
My wife was posting earlier with my account. We work as a team with the animals, however this hatching process was all her since I was away helping my parents move over the weekend.
I will chime in on the subject though.
The one healthy chick is doing great. The "lame" chick is the same. We...
Did your little chick do ok? Mine is still sitting. No idea if a deformity or not. Will drink when I put it to the water and pecks at the food a bit. Not splayed. One foot curls up when it sits and the other sticks out. But both feet can be spread normally when I hold it on my hand. It gets...
So I removed the two chicks to the brooder. They're mostly dry. Some parts are probably more gunk than being wet. I helped unzip the two Swedish flowers that pipped but touching their beaks did not result in any movement or peeping. I think they're dead :( one larger egg (mix) I noticed had...
Those pictures were of the same chick. :) it's doing ok. It's still sitting. Not standing yet. However the other egg hatched on its own!! And it's already running around haha. There are two Swedish flower eggs that pipped too. Wrong side. So I turned them pip side up. Again on the side of the egg
A chick is born!!! Our first! I put him back (think its a rooster) in the incubator. I turned the other egg that was hatching feet first up so that its beak was pointed up. Also moistened that one too.
These eggs are Swedish flowers and Swedish flower/black sex link mix. So far I'm pretty sure...
I gritted my teeth after reading a lot and watching a few videos and with your advice I helped the chick out. I was very careful. But as I went I could tell it was ready. And a big sigh of relief as I looked near its leg and saw no yolk left. Yay!
Ok thank you. I really appreciate it. I've been trying to wet with water every two hours. Can I use a+d ointment? I'm afraid for when I go to bed haha.
Precious! Ours is still stuck. No movement other than beak. But one in the back is hatching!!! Got a whole foot out. Looks like it unzipped on the underneath of the egg.
I just moistened again. Chick hasn't done anything. Moves its beak around a bit and Cheeps. Not sure when or if I should go all the way and assist it out.
Thanks. I did just that. My husband unfortunately didn't make a window for the incubator so I'll check again at 430 I suppose. (Two hours after I replaced it)
