    New 8 x 12 Bantam Coop *New Additions-Post 244~ 6/2*

We added a 3rd roost bar, a wider one (2x3) that is also much lower, about 20", in the event of older standard size hens sharing the coop with the bantams one day. Already, the biggest Orp pullet is having a hard time making it up on the top roost with the others, which were designed for the...

Quote: Glad you have chickens again! We have just one banty Cochin, a lavender girl who is about three years old now. Shadow is a joy, but such a little diva! Post pics of your coop and run when you finish it.

Thanks, I am so happy with it. Tom is, too. He keeps saying it's just how he imagined it in his head.

    New 8 x 12 Bantam Coop *New Additions-Post 244~ 6/2*

A super nice guy bought all my extra chicks (thanks so much, Derrick!) and I'm down to my keepers, 10 standards and 7 D'Anver bantams. Eventually, only the bantams and the Silver Phoenix will be living here, and possibly my Amer/Sumatra girl, maybe my banty Cochin, but thought I'd update the...

    New 8 x 12 Bantam Coop *New Additions-Post 244~ 6/2*

Robin, I just put a group of 13 extras up in our auction area. Someone was going to buy all the extras at once, but apparently didn't want to pay my price (less than $3.50 for each 4 week old chick, less than the feedstore charges for hatchery birds). Then I have a couple folks I'm holding out...

    New 8 x 12 Bantam Coop *New Additions-Post 244~ 6/2*

We did have to take off one long side of the frame, but left on the other three. The hole was cut to fit the door and we didn't expect to have to remove part of the frame, but it was just a smidge too tight, and being afraid we'd break the glass if we forced it, we removed one long side of the...

    New 8 x 12 Bantam Coop *New Additions-Post 244~ 6/2*

My own DH really wants to go back to the old days of maybe a dozen hens. We may be headed that way soon if the economy doesn't pick up some, but I like this coop better than the others we've built and this one stays. Maybe I'll move the old ladies in with the bantams and reclaim their coop for a...

    New 8 x 12 Bantam Coop *New Additions-Post 244~ 6/2*

Thanks, we are quite pleased with it. The pipe arched across is PVC foamcore, which is quite strong and is just flexible enough. We realized today that in the hottest part of the summer, we can throw a tarp over the part of it, too. Should be no trouble other than to brush a heavy leaf or snow...

Covered pen complete, finally! Thanks to those who offered suggestions--you can see that I took them.

Quote: Best of luck with your hatch! Now that they've moved in, I need to figure out how long 40-something chicks can live in an 8x8 coop before I have to start selling off the extras. In fact, would someone like to comment on that? morel, I thought about the deer netting, but we do get snow...

They've moved in and are happy as can be, it seems. Here's a video clip of the little heathens: http://s673.photobucket.com/albums/vv95/Mtnviewpoultry/Video%20Clips/?action=view&current=DSCN1683.mp4

    New 8 x 12 Bantam Coop *New Additions-Post 244~ 6/2*

Thanks, guys! We've been banging our heads against a wall today, trying to figure it out. The U-posts are the heaviest they have at Home Depot, but they still bend under pressure. I like the swingset idea! I'm going to get DH to read your suggestions and see if he can puzzle it out. This pen is...

    New 8 x 12 Bantam Coop *New Additions-Post 244~ 6/2*

Trying to figure out how to cover this without sinking 4x4s, but we may have to do it with turkey wire, then later on, make it better. Can't afford to do more at this point.

Realized I hadn't put pics of the finished interior here yet so here they are. Worked on the bottom of the fence adding a dig barrier today so not much to see in the way of progress. Will post when I get the outside trim done.

Thanks all. Ryan, welcome to BYC! Tomorrow, we may have thunderstorms in the afternoon, so could be a couple days before I can get the trim finished. Maybe we can get more done on the fencing.

I can't imagine the netting holding up to snow which is why we're trying to figure out how to do the other stuff. If we can't, may opt for chickenwire, but still not sure. We'll figure it out somehow. Just got the body of the coop painted with the sprayer. When it dries, will start on the trim...

We get to paint today! Sunny and very warm all day long so DH is getting out the paint sprayer and compressor. Then, I will have the lovely tedious job of painting the trim.
