Oh, thats a great idea. I used to have these fake plants that looked great about 3 years ago, they looked very realistic. Wonder where they are now. I was gonna say if you have a puffer don't they eat plants or at least dig them up?

That was just the issue. The plants were an impulse buy from a fish store, and they were high light co2 requiring plants. I can't remember names, but they were very fine leafed plants. They all died of within 2 weeks. Now, if I want plants I just have Anubis.

Ive tried a planted aquarium before, it wasn't worth the trouble IMO. But to each his own

Your stock sounds cool but is there any reason you are avoiding larger fish? I'd think that a tank with some large cichlids and catfish would be really cool!

I once kept a large 12" Oscar that was wild caught from south america. He was a very big but peaceful and graceful fish. I still regret selling him. He was a beautiful fish.

Ive never had an acrylic tank so I wouldn't know. I have heard of large Plecos rasping big craters in the tank though. That's why I don't like it, scratches way too easier. Of course it is lighter and stronger but I don't like the scratching part. Speaking of Plecos, one of my favorite fish was...

Freshwater puffers are interesting fish. I saw "Globe puffers" in my LFS once, but I remember that the guy said they had a nasty attitude, so I didn't get any. They would be cool for a species tank I guess, but I like my tanks full of fish. 300 gallon is a great tank. The thing with dither fish...

Naming fish to me is kind of pointless. I don't name them. The only fish I have that have names are my bullhead catfish, and redheaded severum breeding pair because Ive had them for so long.

The thing about ponds is you just need to replicate the ecosystem of natural ponds. Then they won't need filtration or feeding.

Another good idea for large ponds is to use a heavy duty tarp instead of a liner. They are lighter, easier, and MUCH cheaper. I plan on making the bottom of my pond something like this: https://www.storesonlinepro.com/files/2039883/uploaded/Bog%20constrcution%203.jpg This way the large rocks...

As i said before, If all goes smoothly and you don't encounter issues, its easy. Dig the hole, put in the liner, put in rocks/substrate, fill with water. Then the fun part comes, stocking with fish and plants! You don't even have to be that skilled with a shovel to dig one! The hardest part in...

Making a pond can be involved but I will say it is well worth it. The reason it was tricky for me was I needed to clear out the pond site(3 boxwood bushes and ALOT of mulch), and I hit a couple pipes on the way down that needed to be moved. If it weren't for the initial clearing of the bushes...

No problem, always nice to share knowledge with another fish keeper. As I said above I never kept fish and turtles together(or dared to) because of the very reason of them eating the fish. I wanted to keep a musk or mud turtle with my trout. My trout are big and can fend for themselves, the...

Watermelon, zebra, gold sunshine are my 3 top favorite plecos. The watermelon i had wasn't too long, maybe 14", but they are a very wide headed species of pleco. Driftwood eaters too, so not a good choice if you have some nice driftwood. Turtle and pleco is an interesting combo, Ive never kept...

Cool fish. Plecos are great, my favorite are watermelon Plecos. Nice pattern on them, I used to have massive Pleco before he died, head must've been the size of my fist and weighed at least 2-3 lbs. I have a 90 gallon, 55 gallon, 37 gallon, and 15 gallon. I used to have a lot more, lol. I am...
