Hi, I'm new and found a bird that looks like a baby crane bird. I live in a residential area and the little guy had need hanging out for a few days now and the cats keeped following him around. I have him in my house now and looking after him until I can take him to a wild life rescue. But most of all how do I take care of him? I have a picture that my neighbors took, but does him no justice. He has car oil on his feathers and probably hasn't eaten. Please help! I don't want him to die.

Welcome to BYC!

The info I found in Wikipedia said cranes eat a wide variety of foods, such as: "seeds, leaves, nuts and acorns, berries, fruit, insects, worms, snails, small reptiles, mammals and birds". They'll also eat small fish and amphibians.

The wild life rescue place you are taking him to would be your best source, I'd call them.

Good luck, hope he'll be ok.

Thank you, I found some info on goggle too. I got him some mealworms and crickets. So, so far so good. He'll be going to the Rescue Center tomorrow....
