Looks like a hen to me. About laying age too. I'd to know the age to tell you for sure though.

That comb is too big and red, too early for it to be a pullet.

I would agree except that the earlobe looks white to me in the pic. Is that just a trick of the light based on an odd angle or is the earlobe actually white? If so, it's not a Black Australorp as they have red earlobes.
