Have small flock of bourbon reds (30 various ages). This morning 1 about 3mths old is gapping and stumbling. I separated him from flock. Brought into garage under heat lamp as we have had a huge change in weather overnight. Was in the 90's now is cold dank and raining. Did he get cold? Does he have a cootie? What treatment? So overwhelmed googling.Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

Don't think its a red worm but I did see a suggestion for apple cider vinegar as wormer in water. I'll give it a look. He is eating and drinking now but still opening and CLosing his beak and stumbling.

54° and raining when I discovered him at morning feeding. I brought him inside with heat 80°, I was thinking maybe he just got to wet and cold. He stayed outside with his mom (on a nest). I didn't think much of it, til this morning.

It could be that. Is he showing any symptoms of respiratory infection? Stumbling usually has to do with extreme weakness or a neurological issue, or perhaps he is not getting enough oxygen. Are his toes purple?

No purple toes. I checked to see for any obstructions and found none visable. He is eating and drinking well. Its now 24 hrs later and no improvement. I will try oxytetracycline in his water. Poor fella.

No purple toes, No discharges, no cough or rasp, no visible airway obstruction. He is eating and drinking well. Its now 24 hrs later and no improvement. I will try oxytetracycline in his water For 10 days. So far he is still the only bird feeling icky.

Could be gapeworm, so you might want to get some safeguard and give him 0.23ml per pound orally for 5 consecutive days. Might also be a respiratory infection. Any discharge from his nostrils? Any bubbles in the eyes? Facial swelling? And lung congestion?

Another thing to consider is possible injury. These guys can get quite excited (just "feeling full of themselves"/practicing at sparring/startled by pred or other "unknown" appearing suddenly) and strike their heads against a roof or roost and become "addled"; also, have watched sparring toms, for years, and all that neck wrapping/knock down-drag out with no injuries to the necks. However, one bad flight into wall of shed and days of open/close beak-shift neck around this way and that, constantly.

Eating and drinking normally/normal droppings?/ what position does it take when sleeping? Head under wing/neck stretched out?
