I don't know what is going on but I hope someone can help me. For the past few days, I've noticed some strange things going on with the eggs. First, one of my ducks laid a bantam sized egg that had a soft shell and calcium deposits on it. I accidentally broke the shell and what came out was this very stinky, white blob with clear fluid around it. The next day and today, I picked up eggs that had a stinky smell to them as well. I wondered if the first set I got yesterday had to do with the heat, but this morning it wasn't too hot when I collected the eggs and they still smelled terrible.
In figuring this out, I should mention something. I lost what appeared to be a perfectly healthy duck a couple of weeks ago. This had been the second one in two weeks that had died. It appeared that some of the other ducks were very lethargic and I worried they may have been sick, especially since they had been out free ranging rooting in a ditch that had standing water in it right before our second duck died. After I lost that second duck, I put the whole flock on a round of Duramycin-10 just in case they had ingested some bacteria and had an infection. We just finished the medicine a week from yesterday and I have given them some vitamins and electrolytes a couple of times last week. I know I have to withhold the eggs for 21 days after coming off antibiotic so I would be throwing them out anyway right now. I wonder if this could be some kind of temporary side effect to the medicine? Or is it a sign of something else going on? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
