Polish Crested haircut: "I once was blind but now I see!"

I'll have to give it a shot myself. The PC too is a little aggressive, so that should be fun. Do you think trimming him will keep the hens from plucking the rest of his crest out?

Well, thanks a lot. This has been super helpful. I have two PC, two silkies, two buff brahmas, two buff orpingtons, two black star and two buckeyes. I'll post pictures of the different crosses I hatch. Should be interesting.

I used to show and groom cockers - they were easy to handle because they got their first face trim at 10 days old. I think you'd have to have nerves of steel to work on chickens, they have some fast and unexpected movements.

My hat is off to those who have the patience and steady hands to do the trimming. I think polish, silkies etc. look so much nicer with their eyes showing. Bet they feel much better when they aren't staggering around half blind.

Maybe you can hang out a shingle "Polish chicken crest trimming."

I'm very new to the backyard chicken game and so appreciate that others have administered a chicken haircut! This is a photo of our little Polish pullet (yet to be named), with a nice trim to help her see. Forgive the surroundings, this is a temporary shelter.

By the way, does anyone know what a favorite treat might be for the Polish (probably also bantam) hen? She really did not care for tonight's watermelon.

I'm glad I checked this thread out! I don't have any Polish chickies, but I do have two 10week old white silkies, and I've been toying around with possibly trimming their "hair." The poor little girls get pecked and chased by the bigger birds. And when I go out and toss them their bread, the poor things can barely see where the pieces are, so the bigger birds get most of it. I'll have to get my husband to help me tonight!!
