Local duck pond duck...help please

I don't mean to place blame on tractor supply- for it is the customers decision, but honestly if they are going to sell a living creature, they AT LEAST should know themselves how to care for it. The sales associate flat out told me SHE took a leftover to the pond. I can't catch him. I've had people try to help. You would think I could outrun a crippled duck fed a diet of lays potato chips and moldy bread- but i couldn't! He's smart. He sat on the bank watching me get out of my car. Its become a challenge now. I will check out the site on the landscape fence. We are going out this evening to try once more. I'm not sure what's going to happen in the wintertime when their water source freezes.

Here is a suggestion,
Contact the local Parks Department or Code Enforcement to see if they can post some official looking signs in the area to educate the public. At a minimum the local rescue could get permission to post some educational signs. Not to be too offensive, but all the sign would need to say is, "Your abandoned domestic duck will die if you leave it here!" or to be more sarcastic, "Thanks for feeding the coyote" (or whatever the local predator is). Here in central Florida you can find basic informative signs in areas frequented by gators, manatees, and lately the growing black bear population. Not sure if it helps, but it seems for some to be the only knowledge they have ever seen on the subject.

I sure hope something finally works. Wonderful you can enough to keep trying. you can also buy those long pole fish nets I got mine at Dicks sporting goods for less than 10.
