Hi! I've been referred over from the new starters forum. I'm hoping someone might be able to help me identify which (if any) might be a Roo out of the three below. The white ones are supposed to be Rhode Island Whites and the black a brahma. The RIW are about 11 weeks and the brahma about 8 weeks. The first two pics are the one I think may be a pullet? The next RIW the roo. I say that because the 'roos' crest came in a couple of weeks ago, before any of the others, and has distinctive ridges/bumps on it.
The other RIW and brahma have similar looking crowns to each other ('just a mass') and definite little tufts for tails whereas the 'roo' doesn't.

Hoping for one roo and the rest pullets rather than the other way around! And trying not to get attached to the roo as it may not be able to stay :-(

Any thoughts? TIA

Full body shots would be better, just by what I can see there's probably at least 2 roosters, the two middle ones.

Thanks @oldhenlikesdogs

Turns out they're not very cooperative when it comes to photos. This is what I could get. In the original post photos 1 & 2 are the same chook and 3 & 4 are the same. So I think you're thoughts align with mine - 3 & 4 is a roo, the others girls.

Full body of number 1 (photos 1 & 2 in original)

Full body of what I think is roo (3 & 4 above)

And the black brahma which I think is pullet

I have another little brahma but I think she's still too little to know. I did notice roo tried to pick on the little one and the other two came flying over and saw it off. It does seem to be a bit of the odd one out.
Thanks again

Nothing like following a chicken around trying to get them to pose, the first one I'm unsure, the second I'm pretty sure is a rooster, the last I agree looks like a pullet. I can look at mine and tell right away, pictures complicate things, from what I've seen pullets combs are more orange for a few months, roosters turn pink pretty early, and a photo doesn't always show color correctly.

Those chicks are mixed breeds. Both 1 and 2 are males for sure. Pullets do not start to turn red in the comb until they are almost ready to lay eggs. Chick 1 has what looks like a 'modified' pea comb.

agreed It helps if you have another person hold the birds for photos - especially head shots, so we can see the comb and other gender features - no way to see the comb on your last photo at all ( dark pullet?)

Hi again! So after hearing a partial crow the other day, I'm hoping some updated photos might help. I didn't catch the crower but any roos can't stay (neighbours will complain ).

rose island white cross (I was told)

better shot of the one on the bottom of pic 1. This one had all her pink bits long before the others

better shot of the top one in pic1.

brahma (cross?) The friendliest. Will sit on your lap. Even your head if you're not quick!

the baby of the group. No pink bits yet. The most shy but the chattiest. Does not stop cheeping!

Thanks in advance everyone!

That last one isn't the baby, it's just the only pullet. That's why she's smaller and still undeveloped in the comb. The others are all male, sorry.
