Hello,

I'm brand new to raising chickens and want to get started. I was going to order some chicks off of the internet, but it seems it is too late in the season, everything is sold out.

Any idea where I may be able to find chicks this time of year?

Thank you!

Go to your state thread, see if anyone close by is selling chicks they have hatched. I sell a lot in my state, because I hatch.. ahem..a lot. :D

Hi there - and welcome to BYC!
How many chicks are you looking for and in what breed(s)? While many hatcheries are sold out at this point, there are still other sources you can consider for sourcing your flock. If you visit the "local" thread for your area here : https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you you may be able to network with fellow BYC'ers who are near you and may either have birds for sale or know someone who does. Local poultry shows, Craigs List and animal swaps are other sources to consider. Alternatively, you could take the next 5 months or so to get all your infrastructure in place and be ready to go as soon as the hatcheries start cranking out chicks again in the spring.

In addition to your state thread, once you have 20 posts you can use the buy-sell-trade forum here on BYC:

Good luck and thanks for joining us!

Welcome to the BYC flock, glad you joined us. If no chicks, maybe you can find some point of lay pullets or laying hens. They will be able to go outside from the start
