Hi all! New to the duck game and wondering if you can help me out. I purchased a mama, dad, and baby muscovy. I have no idea if baby is a girl or a boy. My gut says drake but what do I know? Lol. I was told that he was born in June but I think she was wrong because I also have some ladies who were born Aug 15th (I got them from a different family) who tower over this one. I'm guessing he (or she) is 7 weeks old.

Thank you for any help :)

It looks like a drake but could easily turn the opposite direction to a female. The best way to tell is to wait and see! It will get a curled feather on its tail I'd its a boy by let's say 15 weeks it should have a curled feather. If not its a female. It will also quack.

Thank you! I will keep an eye out for that curl

I just wish I knew for sure how old it is. Guess we will just wait and see ;)

Muscovies do not develop the 'drake curl'. Muscovy hens do not quack. It only occurs in mallards and mallard derived breeds. Muscovy drakes are general one third larger than the females. Those big feet and the stance look masculine.

I knew it was more of a size thing in regards to gender but I don't have any others to compare him to, age wise. I agree though. Those feet are big and floppy like his daddy's.

Also, all my littles are LOUD. Sounds like a pet store in the back with all their peeping. Mom and dad are as quiet as ever, though, thankfully. Don't they know we have neighbors? ;P
