hi there. I have a ten month old male Pekin duck that seems to be sick, and I'm in search for advice on what to do. I went to go feed him and his girlfriend yesterday and he did not come running over as the usual. He just sat there. Then he walked a little, kind of seeming with a limp, and just sat back down. I thought maybe he hurt his leg. I checked his body for anything unusual, and he felt fine. I brought him in and made him a bed in the bathroom. He didn't seem interested in the food or water, but when I splashed my hand around in the water(acting like another duck drinking), he drank and ate some. As time went on I noticed his poop was very green. Very green. And solid, not the usual brown poop splash. Also when I saw him yesterday he had more of a solid like snot around his nostril. So now he just is sitting mostly in the same spot and not feeling good. I know I can do things like electrolytes, probiotics, but other than that I am lost. I don't want to just try something that could be the wrong thing, cause maybe his life could be at stake. Anyone here experience this with their ducks before? Any ideas on what to do? Thank you

If you can get him to a vet, that would be best.

@casportpony @needlessjunk @Debs Flock @Orca5094 any ideas?

It could be an infection in his digestive tract - parasitic or bacterial (fungi are always a possibility, but I think with ducks the first two are more likely).

Could he have eaten something unhealthy?

Can you post a picture of his poop?

I don't think he could have eaten anything unhealthy unless chicken poo.

He eats the chicken/duck layer feed, and I give them other human food scraps. Nothin weird or anything. I wonder if he ate chicken poo and if that got him sick. Or, if he just has a weak immune system and got sick

I agree that a vet would be best, you don't want him to go downhill and lose him. :/ Can you get up close to him and listen to his breathing, and also listen to his lungs? Do you hear crackling in the lungs or wheezing? Just thought it could possibly be a respiratory infection since he had goo on his nares. That would definitely make him not feel well and not want to eat much. In this case he would need antibiotics asap to help clear that up.

I'm not an expert, but his poo looks like my ducks' after they've eaten alot of greens (kale, grass, clover, etc). Has he been eating alot of green? Does all of his poo look like that? I don't have any experience with it myself, but apparently bright green poo can indicate they are suffering from metal toxicity (have eaten some piece of metal) which also requires some quick treatment. I don't think this looks quite right for that, but again I'm not an expert. His poo being more solid could just mean he's not drinking as much water as he should. I would seriously consider a vet to be honest. Too many possibilities and too hard to help when we can't see the bird ourselves.
