I went out into the yard this afternoon and found two of my snow white Pekins covered in red! I was understandably alarmed. I could not see any wounds but their heads and breasts were saturated. They would not let me get close to them so I looked and looked around the yard to see if there was some explanation...... Nothing. No tangle of feathers no fight scene. Finally I was able to get close enough to one of them to grab her. I Examined her closely and found....a tomato seed. The little buggars got into my very ripe but well fenced off tomatoes. DETERMINED little girls. Catastrophe averted. No injury just gluttony. Stinkers!
Hope you got a laugh out of this as much as I did....once I could breathe again LOL

Oh boy was I worried at first, they really know how to scare some one. So funny they had a good time in your tomatoes.

I am with you on that one, ML. I once read that a person's ducks got into her strawberry patch with pretty much the same results. I keep my strawberries fenced out not only so I can be the one who eats them but also to avoid such alarming circumstances. With all the preds around one never knows what to think when the color red shows up on our beloved ducks.

I haven't had a ripe tomato in over a month! Even though I fenced them from the ducks, as soon as the tomatoes turn red, my ducks turn into ninjas and they eat every last one. I have been getting tomatoes from my neighbors garden, because I give up on getting any of my own.

Lol. I can relate. I once fed my girls purple cabbage when they were still ducklings. They were pooping black..,and it stains.

Much scrubbing was used to clean the brooder.

Haven't fed them purple cabbage since.
