help with baby chick breeds please

Hi all! Well, after moving cross country once or twice thus selling our chickens, we have finally settled on a farm in KS and just got 15 baby chicks!

They are all a mix of: barred rock, Welsummer, New Hampshire red, Easter Egger, and Rhode Island Red per the man that raises them. They are 3 days to 1.5 weeks old.

So I am trying to narrow down what each one might be (ha). Are the black ones definitely barred rocks? (white on heads), the pale yellow the NHR?

I have no idea really; the chipmunks are really throwing me off if theyre EE or welsummers, and the gray/brown mix fuzzies? I can't tell what the internet means by PEA comb on EEs? I don't see 3 distinct combs?

my pictures may not be helpful enough, I can take better ones if need be.

What do y'all think?

The blacks are Barred Rocks, the very dark chipmunks are Welsummer, and anything with puffy cheeks is most likely an Easter Egger. Rhode Islands and New Hampshires look pretty similar at this age, though may be closer to yellow than red. I see lots of EEs, two or so Barnevelders, and 2 or so BR. Not sure about how many NH and RIR, since I can't see whether most of those red chicks have puffs or not.

The seller said they are all crossed, he didn't deliberately breed any of them; let's them breed and then hatches eggs as well as sells tons of eggs.

He did mention puffy cheeks are usually EEs, but I wasn't sure just how puffy puffy was. haha I was hoping we had a few RiR in there ...

I see a lot of EEs in there if that's the case, none of them look like RIRs, they are all most likely mixed breeds if he had different types of roosters and hens.

Okay, thank you! I took them out to the sun this afternoon; I could definitely see the puffy cheeks! So if puffy cheeks = most likely EE, then lots of easter eggers. =/

Are they as hardy and good layers as RiR or NHR? there is a yellow one or two without puffy cheeks, what might they be?

And, will mixed breeds come out as a certain color or pattern most like one breed? Or will they be a true mutt? Not sure how all that works in chickens (or is it universal? haha)
 
Alright, my bad on my first post. When you wrote "mix of" I thought you meant various pure breeds. In the other case, you have probably all mutts.

Genetics are very complicated and will vary depending on what colors the parents are. You can have chicks mostly the color of one parent, or a mix of both, or neither.

I like EEs better because they usaully lay pretty blue or green tinted eggs, very good layers and are pretty cold hardy.
