Let me start by saying I don't have these chickens...a lady rescued them today and has asked for my help...I don't know what to tell her as I've NEVER seen anything like this before...Please help me help her...and these chickens.

Any advice on what is wrong with these chickens? and what to do? She just bathed them and has them drying now...well the first 3 of 7...thanks in advance!

Ask her if they were kept in a tiny pen or cage. It looks like they could have been all crowded in together which has caused them to peck out each other's feathers.

Good new is that if that is what it was, plenty of room and time will heal them and the feathers will grow back.

The other thing to look for is lice or mites, particularly look around the bottom feathers for mites.

I would nick to the pet shop and buy some bird vitamins which you add to their water. Just to give them a bit of a boost for a couple of weeks while they re feathering back up

Thank you!!

She said the place she rescued them from they had a small coop...but were supposedly free ranged also...I seem to think they were NOT free ranging them...but just told her that...she was checking for lice and mites and didn't see anything...those are the reasons for the pictures up close to the skin and the feather shafts...

I'm passing along your info RIGHT now!
