One female bobwhite quail has a tendancy to leave the coop at dusk and ends up staying out in the run all night. The quail have a tendancy to go in and out of the coop and finally settle down. One quail, who tends to be a loner, stays out too long and ends up not making it into the coop - I think because the coop is in a slighly darker spot and she stays in the corner of the run that still has a little light from the setting sun. If I am not there at dusk to shoo her in, she ends up in the run for the night. Once it is dark, I can't shoo her in because she is too flighty.
I'm worried this problem will increase because the days are getting shorter and I am not home before dark.
It is the coming of cold weather that worries me. Not sure about her staying warm enough by herself on cold ground in subzero temps.
Any suggestions? Anyone else have a loner quail?
