I have read that bobcat urine will get rid of mice in the chicken coop, my question is will the chickens think a bobcat is around and be scared
 
I've heard that predator urine just makes a big stink and will not necessarily keep other animals away.
Would not want the odor of any kind of cat urine in my coop.
There are better ways to battle mice...snap traps being all I've ever needed.
Store your feed in metal cans...and maybe even your feeders in there at night.
 
Just make sure you aren't, in fact, ATTRACTING bobcat... If you HAVE Bobcat, I would strongly advise against using the urine.... It's actually an ATTRACTANT to certain furbearers, especially other bobs ;)


It might work to deter mice, but mice don't actually CARE if there's a predator around lol; they are gluttonus little piggies and will stop at nothing short to get a bite of food, bobcat pee or not... IMO, anyway :D

But ya never know lol...

It stinks really really bad lol, plug your nose, and good luck ;)

Someone posted on another thread that they put the snap traps in a wooden box with little holes so the mice could get in, but the chickens were safe from the trap. You could also use the plastic bait station type like the pros use where mice can get in but not out.
 
thanks mutt farm I have used several traps and have caught a lot of mice but they multiply faster than I can catch them
 
We've got pack rats, kangaroo rats, and field mice.
My coop is not 100% impenetrable, but it would be pretty hard for them to get in.
My feed is stored in metal trash cans, and when the coop is closed at night, there's no way for anything to get in.
All feed is put away at night, and I never throw more scratch out than the chickens can eat in about 10 minutes.

I do have a wind up trap or two if it becomes needed, and I also have a live trap or two for larger things. But, so far so good.

My run consists of two 20 foot storage containers placed 20 feet apart, with three foot roofing tin fencing in the ends, and chicken wire above that for another 6 feet.
 
thanks for the reply, my coop is open during the day and they just set up shop in there, I do keep my feed in metal cans and feed is put up at night but there is a lot on the ground (my chickens waste a lot)
