Is this considered a pip?

I so far have had 2 hatches and both 100%. I think it depends on where you live but Amy does dry incubation until lockdown and that works for her. But I do 45-50% until day 18 and 70-75% at lockdown bc I too open it a lot. On day 20 I opened it like 10 times and all hatched fine no shrink wrapping at all. I have genesis 1588 styrofoam bator and I use an automatic egg turner. Some don't turn eggs the first 7 ish days and stop after day 14 I just put it in with the eggs on day 1 and take out day 18. My first batch hatched day 18 so I did lockdown on day 17 this time but they actually all hatched day 21. So every egg or batch will be different. I think if it's a healthy egg you have good chances. For me it seems like it would be hard to mess up. But maybe I've just been lucky these 2 times. My chickens are free range though and have beautifully evenly calciumed eggs...maybe has something to do with it

Usually not turning the first few days is for shipped eggsto give detatched air cells time to settle and firm up. Most stop at day 18, I'm one of the few that stop at day 14.

Diet definitely has a lot to do with good egg quality, (not to mention taste.

) My last 3 hatches have all started at day 19, but that's mostly because I have an LG and usually temps average a bit warmer. My banty hatched 3 eggs two weeks ago and hers started day 19 too...lol My Spitz is on day 18 with 2 eggs and when I checked them tonight they were both internally pipped. My last hatch was 100% with my pullet eggs 20/20 and the hatch before was 31/36 so about 94%. My first hatch was badly compromised by an innaccurate thermometer. 17 in lockdown and one survivor. Thankfully I tried a second and got 13/16 and just kept improving since then.

I only hatched 6 eggs in both hatches lol but still 100%. I got my money back on the shipped eggs bc most were scrambled and only 1 embryo grew but died late before internally pipping. I actually don't have any other thermometers in the bator to double check. Risky I know but so far both hatches have been with just the readings on the bator. I won't do that next time though. These were extra small eggs and they pipped internally day 19, externally day 20 and hatched day 21. I've learned so much and I love it. Thank you Amy for all your knowledge and helping others. It definitely is something you have to do firsthand to understand and its so interesting how everyone does something a little different
