My del. youngsters and one NH. chick of the same group at 25 weeks are suddenly putting their tails down, not eating and dying. In three days time. No sneezing, no nothing. Just tails droop and they get very pale in their combs very quick. So far I have lost two and another two look bad. I called my npip man and he says to start on LA 200 and also to put 1 tabs. of bleach to a gal of water. I am going to try that. He did not know off hand what it could be. Last yr, at about this same time of yr. I lost two roosters to this about the same age. Now I'm stumped. Why the first cool spell and why just this group The other hens are fine. They were hatched under older hens and not in an incubator so although I had them on chick feed with the cocci preventative until about a month ago I thought they would be fine. Help I want your ideas. gloria jean

NPIP is the nation poultry Improvement program. They have people who do blood work and swabs on chickens to ck for disease. If you are clean they you can sell eggs and birds. I have had that done but am awaitting the results. . I really am getting older and giving them all shots at this time would be hard on me. I really should not be working with fowl since I do not have the health to do so. This will probably be my last yr. unless I get to feeling better. La 200 is an antibiotic. I really do not want to go that route If I can help it. So I will go with the clorox and maybe a good worming at this time.
