If you have ever read any of my post about a very fat turkey named Gilbert he finally passed away yesterday. Gilbert was a 56 pound broad breasted bronze turkey. He was four years old. Gilbert just wasn't like any other turkey, he followed you around everywhere you went and he loved scratch and having his head scratched. Over the past few months I watched him start to get older and slower. I also noticed he wasn't as colorful as he used to be and he didn't strut or gobble anymore. He also had a horrible case of bumble foot but I just found that out when he died. He was one of the sweetest turkeys ever. The night before he died I sat down by him and he put his head in my lap and I knew it would be the last time I saw him. I sure will miss letting him out in the morning and him chasing me for food.

The fact that he lived that long is a testament to the quality care that you provided. Sorry for your loss.

Aww...I'm sorry. I know how hard it can be to loose a friend like Gilbert. He was quite the guy. :hugs

Beautiful. BB usually don't live long at all. I have heritage breeds so I'm no expert. But I believe they are usually butchered around 12-15 weeks. And definitely develop health problems easily. Was he your only turkey?

at the time yes, I have had a few more poults in March but it rained really hard one day while I was at school and they all died, I also had another turkey that I was very close to name fiskar, I got him for free at atwoods because he was born with only one eye and scissor beak, he was as sweet as Gilbert
