Animal shelter had this chicken listed as a hen but this bird crowed this morning. Could she be a hen who crows or is this definitely a young roo?

Do you know what age it is? The head has a very roostery shape, but that's a perfectly reasonable comb/wattle for a point of lay or laying hen. And the main tail feathers are curved, but the saddle is completely henny. If it's young, I'd say cockerel, if it's older, I'd say hormonally imbalanced hen.

Either way, it's a mixed breed.

Don't know the age! I wish I did! S/he was brought in as a stray so no info was given.

Would a young rooster do a dance in the presence of hens? This one did not. (S/he is now at a boarding facility because the adopter is not zoned for roosters.)

Potentially. They tend to develop instincts to dance around the same time they begin to crow.

But honestly, the more I look at the head, the more I think it's a cockerel. Just the shape of the face, comb and wattle.

In case anyone is wondering, this bird laid an egg this morning so turned out to be a hen!!!
