So I guess you know what you'll be doing after work.

Never drank a lot...mostly at parties. All my party friends are either dead or moved away
I'm still here.

Great mousers.

FOR ALL YOU PEAFOWL PEOPLE:

I have 2 babies that I hatched early July. They were both doing great until this morning:

I walked over to check on them, and saw that they were both laying in the middle of the run just panting. And one was dead. But, the other seemed just fine. I looked the dead one over, and there were no wounds, so I just assumed that it was the heat. So, I put ice in their water and sprayed down the ground.

Well, this evening I went over to check on them again and now the other one is not moving, and is just laying in the same spot as I left it. But still breathing.

So, is there a sickness that peafowl commonly get? And is there anything that I can do? Please help!

Thank you!
Try to get the live one somewhere cooler.
A little ice to keep the footbaths cool isn't a bad idea but don't give birds ice water to drink. It can restrict the capillaries making matters worse.
Since it is arid there, misters should help a lot with evaporative cooling.
If it is illness, there is nothing you can do without knowing what is ailing them.

Screwing the gussets on. I'll back them up with nails for insurance before we set them. Setting them's going to be fun; they ain't light. Wish I had a bucket loader.

Not quite that bad; only 6" on each side. We're going to have to get creative; I don't see a couple of 70 year old guys trying to manhandle trusses 8' off the deck while standing on ladders. That sounds like an accident waiting to happen, 'specially when BIL's cardiologist tells him he shouldn't be doing anything like that.

So I need some advice. I set my cemani eggs on the 10th. They are all developing well. On the 15th I got gifted some gorgeous old English game bantams. Both breeds hatch early, but they are 5 days apart. Will this be difficult for lockdown and hatching? I dont have a separate hatcher....
Not ideal but doable. At least you don't have to open to remove the hatched when the others are pipping.

Whites I can't recognize you without your pipe! :lau

are they old enough?

I think they are - doesn't matter though - If I don't get rid of all my roosters, I lose any ability to have chickens at all.  They have to go.

Shalom Kathy!

From my point of view there is no logic that a chicken grower, like you gives her roosters away, and go to the store and buy chicken for dinner. .....

You should overcom that barrier, I am sure you can! :thumbsup

I know I SHOULD, but it doesn't mean I can.  I watched someone pluck some of my silkies, and gut them, but I can't kill and I can't gut.  I wouldn't mind plucking.  I just need to find someone else to do the killing part, and then hang around and do the gutting part....lol

And what about the eating part? :lau

I think I may be ok with the staggered hatch, I brought the humidity up last night and my 1 egg that's due to hatch 1st is already rocking and rolling, hopefully that means it will hatch soon, then I'll just take it out and be able to bring the humidity back down :)
hey teaton I'm on a staggered hatch too. So far all the eggs are developing on schedule. Got 2 due to hatch on the 29th and 2 on the 30th. Followed by 2 on the 2nd of Sept and 1 on the 4th. And a few after that.
