I had to leave the little chick in the incubator alone, the broody has the other eggs still and she was not very keen on me sticking my hand in there this morning. I think I may have heard peeping when I lifted the nest box lid to check for ants. Saw a few stragglers, sprayed them with vinegar and I'm just hoping for the best until I get home today and can move her somewhere else.

Question: can I move her and the eggs if any of her eggs are pipped? Or am I stuck waiting until they all hatch if there are any pips?

And here's little Miracle hanging out in the incubator this morning right after I assisted him:

(Will get some better pictures tonight after he's fluffy before I put him under the broody.)

Guinea update. Mama Clack as she has been named has taken over one gang of chicks and has designs on another. Score one for nature.
LOL she is a stealing momma!!!!

What does one have to do to earn a bad nickname? HAHA!

not have a name! your safe!!

It gets fairly hot here, a couple weeks a year it gets over 105, but its fairly dry heat. i think i am going to try them
It can range from -19 to 110 here and I never lost one to heat but, I'm sure they were uncomfortable.
Where do you live. I may be able to suggest a breed you would like even better. Not that there is anything wrong with this English class breed.

you better have power tools or the airfare will cost me a fortune!
More power tools than you could shake a stick at.
Airfare? When you could drive it in 3 hours or less?

Wendsday I had a chick pip and almost zip completely only to turn breech and die before I could get to it. Well today this one decided to pip on the side, I'm so scared to hatch another dead baby, does this look ok or not? I forgot to mark the air cell on day 18 because the other one was hatching.
lovely avy image!! looks good to me!

The height of pipping is an indication
of weight loss during incubation.

If weight loss was insufficient,
the air cell remains small and the
chicks are forced to pip high. Some
chicks will not be able to pip at all
and will drown inside the egg. The
correct height for pipping is roughly
at half, or just above half, the height
of the egg (see photo).
