ALL DONE WOOOOOOOOOO.

Edit: still missing a bit of trim on the north side. But we're moving chickens over right now! :weee

Loving it!

A little more about light and poultry.
Most people with small broods use glass infrared heat lamps for brooding.
Red is effective at hiding blood so can limit pecking. However, if closely confined, red light can agitate the chicks in a 24/7 light situation.
A non-light heat source is preferred so a dark period can be provided each night.
Blue light has the most calming effect on chickens and since sex hormone stimulation isn't necessary in chicks, it is preferable to red - especially if closely confined.

A tip how to rase the humitiy in your DIY bator:
In my new DIY I have fixed 2 water reservoirs wich have an alouminum pipe that stick out of them through
The bator lid, to replenish water withaout openinig the lid.
Yesterday they enterted to lockdown an i had some low humidity problems.
The only thing that fixed the problem was an Aquarium pump that I conected to one of The pipes. This pump enters air to the water and the bubbles raised the humidity!

I think I would be able to tell by color from all that I have read the chicks should be black or brown. Rhodebars hatch out with white spots on males and chipmunk stripes on females and the are red so I think I will be able to tell a difference.

Good idea.
I already use an aquarium air pump to bring ambient air into the incubator for oxygen but that would kill 2 birds with one stone.
