wow it's Friday, and Beer thirty. where did the week go,
I keep looking at the breeds of chicks, dang can't do them all
do whut? @rIrs roost
I did @Chaos18
you are such a copy cat @Bubbles12345 I am not a good influence sometimes, I better start being a better person.
I was under the impression that it was a "bit" that varied in size and not a "tad" so I would think that a "scosche" would generally be smaller than a "tad" which is smaller than a "bit"
will you not learn!!!!! @Ur-ur-ur-urrr
Conclusion... With the right egg, it's possible to candle and see if an egg is viable 12 hours into incubation. At day 4 now and I was able to correctly identify all viable eggs at 12 hours.
how the babies? @Mirajane
SHARPIES on EGGS? Sure! post #10857 & the age old question Can you write on a hatchin egg with sharpie. answer is yes with proof
@casportpony brat did it as well see post above
awww bummer!!! start at 35 and just candle from above and add more as you need it. @Saris I would set them now, and let them sit still for three days. candle from the top again and then only side to side turning.
Sorry Sally, I thought I had yesterday off work but nope, I have today off instead. Oh well. So had a bit of an emergency this morning. Discovered my husband didn't count heads when putting the large chickens to bed and I discovered Monster, my first batch BCM cockerel roosting in the snowbank by the coop :( His poor feet were ice cold. I soaked them in cooler than body temp epsom salt water, and have him in the baby crate :(
I just went out there and checked, he's now standing up when he wasn't an hour ago. But i can't tell how much damage there will be for his feet. Now on to the babies!!
I love this kid. S/he's got that patch of dark feathers on the top that is growing in straight up. This was one of the cream colored babies at hatch.
And then this one... whose fuzz started sticking up after a week. This one is a darker black than the other hatchmate.
Now for the non tufties:
The non tufty black one.
The other non tufty cream at hatch baby
And the blue/lavender? baby didn't want to sit still for good pics in my hand. She's the one that had curled toes at hatch. They are much better after the booties that only stayed on a few hours, but still has 1 toe on each foot that aren't entirely straight.
How adorable!! beautiful coloring on all the chicks!! I am so sorry about the Roo kit and let us know how he fares please
Good afternoon everyone!
just caught up, again!
Sally, to answer your earlier question, I did check fert and set 12 of my silkies on Dec. 26. fert check 3 random eggs, all good. candle 12 in bator last night, none developing.
Re-checked fert last Sunday (Jan 3) and set an additional 12. at day 4, quick look with candle 9 definite development, 3 questionable, but it is very early.
I also set 8 OE's on the 26th, and looks like 100% development.
I set 12 EE's (Americana hen X Columbian Rock Roo) on Jan 3 as well, quick look last night, all developing!
catch up with you all later! (again)
fire had nothing to say? you must be ill man
and why is that? @holm25
ok @Cynthia12 testing testing 1 2 3
Up and about now. Skimmed the past few hours of posts. Yeah Sally it's plenty of time. I personally wanna live in the middle of nowhere but the husband is a cityboy born and raised and he wants to be near a town. I guess I could always move out near Cibolo TX where my dad's folks live or snag a farm/ranch property in town where we are zoned to have livestock like poultry and goats and things.
me thinks you will end up with critters
awesome!! good news!
yeppers CONGRATS @Bubbles12345
how long is this variance and these are based on calibrated thermos? why is there so much variance?
well deserved! you rocked Tudy!
my hero posted again!
