Just be careful. The hatch before this last one, I had my 3 chicks outside in a wood sided brooder up near the house. They had a heating pad "momma" that I thought was working real well. It was an older one without the automatic shut off. The problem was that it was so cold they didn't want to come out from under "her" to eat & drink. My hubby said he thought they needed a heat light in there as well, I didn't think so. Then 1 of the chicks died. It was over by the water dish, they food I had put right up near "momma heating pad hoop" so they could eat without coming all the way out.Aw that's a bummer. I think the winter thing is doable with the right set up. It gets darn cold here too but so far my 2 weekers are happy and doing just fine out in the coop. That's kinda why we were considering hatching again for New Years. That said, I don't know if I will have any eggs for the HAL. Ive got an 8 month old young roo and my last set yielded 1 chickNot sure if I should try again with my own or roll the dice on pricey shipped eggs.

Anyway, I think maybe my hubby was correct & they needed both (being outside) & the one chick just got too cold when going out to get a drink.
It could have been other causes, but it wasn't anything apparent.
I added a heat lamp & after just a week or so they gave up on "Momma" and choose the heat lamp instead. I haven't lost either of the other 2 & that was about a month (or 2) ago.
