Hi everyone, I'm new to the poultry/waterfowl scene and have been rearing 2 precious ducklings for the past 2 weeks. For their enclosure (they are house ducklings) I've noticed that they are eating their bedding, I use puppy pads. Will this harm them and if so how can I fix this? I also have pine chips ready to go so I'm not quite sure when to introduce them to that. Even as I'm typing this I can hear them pecking away, little rascals! Any help/info is appreciated.

Are you sure they are actually eating the bedding or just foraging around? Either way my opinion would be to change the bedding to pine chips. Ducklings are okay with regular bedding once they have established where the food is, typically a few days after hatching.

They might eat a little of the pine shavings at first to test it, but they should learn pretty quick that it isn't food. Just keep an eye on them that they don't eat too much while they learn this. They will definitely forage around in and play with the shavings, but they should not be allowed to eat large amounts of course. They are much easier to keep clean on shavings (easy to spot clean the poops with a pair of gloves), and they help with the smell as well. ;)
