The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Sour, so happy that things are going well for your granddaughter and that you all got to spend her 18th birthday together! Those moments are small events taken one at a time, but combined with a lifetime of laughing, crying, and worrying each celebration becomes a memory that makes each of us who we are.

Debby, I was hoping you'd have a good time at your Christmas Party - ain't it funny how often the dreading is worse than the doing?

Banty, good luck with your SH. Keep us updated....

DMC, I assume your 4 hour trip is behind you and you are safe and sound at home following the concert!

We had a snow band move through here again yesterday and last night. Another 3 inches. <sigh> At least it's not as cold. This morning the thermometer says 0 but with thankfully no wind it's almost bearable. Next week is going to be bad here for temperatures...expecting an overnight low of -14 degrees by Friday. This is all starting pretty early for us up here - this is normally what it's like here in in January and February. Winters aren't as brutal as they are in other areas of the country, but they go on for so doggone long! A couple of years ago we had snow on June 6th. As long as the weather is good from the 17th to the 22nd I can put up with the rest, I guess. Just don't want any bad weather for the kids' trip to Denver. <sigh>

Glad you all liked Santa's Chicken Coupe! It sorta bends the rules a little but so many posts on here spell "coop" either "coupe" or "coup" I thought I might get by with it and stay within the "Your entry must include a chicken coop" rule. Still not sure I'll even categorize it as an actual "entry". There are some killer entries over there and I really did mine more to participate than anything else. If I do count it as an entry, I'll edit the post to reflect that.

Blooie, you just don't touch your gingerbread...leave it in the contest, it's great!

And yes, sometimes the dreading is worse than the doing.

Hi Debby...had to chuckle over that

We locked the cats in the bathroom so nothing was destroyed. The way these 2 wrestle the house would have been a mess. I caught this picture of the 2 yesterday...totally asleep...wish I could sleep like that!!

LOL, don't you just love seeing them do things like that? Cats are hilarious sometimes.

We can't really lock ours up anywhere. None of the doors in this house completely close and they've all gotten pretty good at prying them open. Especially Pip, she must have some opposable thumbs we can't see...that gal can open anything she puts her mind to.

They crack us up! I hope these guys don't figure out how to pry things open

I sometimes wish my husband hadn't been so enthusiastic about removing the child safety latches from our cabinets when the kids were no longer toddlers. It seems kinda silly to be buying them for cats, but there are some places I'd rather they didn't go.
Quote: Some people will tell you that cats are essentially solitary, and having to live with other cats in the house is stressful for them. Some cats, maybe, but when you see three adult cats all snuggled together in one big pile with limbs and tails going every which way, you have to think they like having each other around.

But kittens are the best - fun, funny, and just so gosh darned cute!

I totally agree about the cats. My bottle babies and my ten year old cat, don't always get along. Misty my ten year old, was raised with dogs, no cats. My bottle babies were orphaned at a young age and we're raised with both a grumpy cat and several dogs. A Great Dane included. My older cat now tolerates the younger cats to a point. Because Ember love to mess with Misty. Mainly when she's walking away. She never learns, its almost as if Ember likes the brain dusting she receives.

In fact, my three cats have broken the house up into territories based on their favorite spots. Misty's the master bedroom, mainly the queen sized bed. She won't let Ember up there at all. Amber, yes, but only in the daytime when the sun shines through the window. While Ember's tends to be the living room, mainly the couch and Amber's the dinning room, mainly the spot in front of the French door. But sister bottle babies, are the only ones to puppy pile it. Be it with dogs or with each other. Misty however, only sleeps with me at night. She's done that since she was a kitten and will not share it with any other cat. Consequently, Ember loves to lie in wait behind the bed skirt, under the bed. So when Misty goes to jump up onto the bed, Ember smacks Misty's butt. Which greatly offends her. They have a swatting match, until Ember leaves with a laugh like twirl. That has become a nightly ritual. :gig
Cats are very complex animals. Just by how they have found a way to coexist together, proves it.

(Hope that's not too crazy cat lady for everyone. :p )

Good afternoon! I was a bit behind here.

:gig

We just have to get the car washed so the valets don't get dog hair all over their uniforms. :lau

:gig have a great time!

One of my fondest company Christmas parties was one of my ex-husbands. The owner of the company carried around a green hot pepper of some sort in his pocket. He'd pull it out and ask who wanted to see his pecker pepper. I'll leave to your imagination the shape of the pepper. :D

Ok, back at home...obligation met until next Christmas.

Actually it wasn't horrible. It was very family friendly with a Santa and gift bags for the kids, hot cocoa & popcorn balls for everyone and an ice skating show by some local school girls.

Still, I'm glad to be home with the cats and DH ensconced on the couch watching the Navy/Army football game.

@Teila
I don't think your feeling is antisocial at all...makes perfect sense to me (but then, I'm a hermit at heart, lol).

Glad it wasn't horrible. We will miss hubby's this year due to his upcoming surgery. And will just have a luncheon at my work some day.

so cute. But, did they unroll the toilet paper before they passed out ?

@Blooie I love the Chicken Coupe - its a mobile coop and such a unique creation.
Wish you, me and Debby could get together sometime for a National Contest.....hmmm...on second thought we may party too much to get anything done

And then it could be us in the above picture. LOL
