I have a Black Sexed hen that has recently gotten a white crusty ring around her neck and is losing feathers in the same area. Any thoughts as to what this may be and is it treatable?

A photo would be helpful...white crusty ring....I'm having trouble imagining what you are seeing. Is the ring around the neck like a collar? Or are you talking about a circular ring, like a donut or like a coin?

White could indicate anything from molting dander to possibly feather lice to ringworm (although rarer in a chicken).

It could be mating damage (if you have a rooster), or something else as bizarre as she is putting her head through a fence to eat treats on the other side and creating feather damage around the neck (had one do that acutally).

A photo would help with a bit more info on its occurrence.

I will get a photo tomorrow and post it. The ring is a collar on the feathers. There is a loss of feathers around the ring area.

If you notice the white collar around her neck, this is the area that is losing feathers.

Here a some better more close up photos. Any information on this would be great.

those are pin feathers, she is molting, her new feathers will grow from those crusty things. All normal, dont worry!
