What gender of goose is best for us

Everybody raises geese differently so don't get mad if someone raises geese different from the way you raise yours :hmm
I wasn't encouraging I was giving the advantages and disadvantages and what you should do for both.

Sorry Wamtazlady for the confusion!
But look we really told you everything about what you were asking for in Carrosaurs and mine conversation so it's all up to you and hopefully both of us gave you good enough information! ;)

We do realize that the geese will not fight off a fox. We just want to be notified when a Fox is in the area. I am not going to allow the geese to be killed by the fox. There will be a predator proof shed for the birds to spend the night. When we are out in the yard doing chores the geese will be out with us. Otherwise the geese will be inside a large area protected by electric poultry netting. The geese's job would be to make noise. Our job will be to make sure that Fox does not stick around to kill ours or our friends' critters. There are guineas across the street. They make noise just to make noise. A half dozen false alarms a day is not what we want.

Well if you have a protected place for them then it's fine.
Like Carrosaur said"they will alert you to predators but they will also alert you to sticks, songbirds flyin, planes, cars, bikes, etc. You'll be walking out every five minutes" so Guineafowls alert warnings by the sounds of it are no different then goose alert warnings

Geese are wonderful animals and since you said you have a place for them you made everyone happy

But keep in mind if want them to be tame or non aggressive you have to have time for them.

I've read that it's best to get day old geese and do a lot of hands on feeding so they imprint on people. We are retired so have all day to spend with our critters during the warm months. We're snowbirds but have found a super house sitter who takes great care of the animals during the cold weather. In fact I found out he loves cooking with duck
eggs so a couple of ducklings might be in our future. However, that means more reading and researching while we're south.

*technically* you should not teach a gander (male goose) to eat out of your hand because they can start to think they can take what they want from you. As long as you do the research and read the goose training posts you'll be fine

Hand feed them till a certain age and then stop and give them food in a bowl and still have the bowl in your hand

Hand raising is the best option of getting them tame.
Indeed get them as goslings!

That is a great piece of advice, servpolice. The geese will know people bring good food, but they will looking to peck in a bowl rather than at a hand. I have so much to learn before spring.

@wamtazlady there is a learning center here on BYC if you haven't seen it. Scroll up to top and you'll see it lots of info there.
